The By-Laws were changed to provide for a seven member board
with two non-voting members. The
major accomplishments of this board have been to oversee and guide the
school through its fourth year and the renewal process.
This board has met numerous times to make sure the financial
management of the school would not interfere or undermine the quality of
instruction that has been offered at CREATE. The board has come together
in good faith to see to it that CREATE will be successful despite concerns
cited by the Department of Education that delayed renewal.
Several new policies were adopted, and more are being
developed to assure compliance with all statutes, laws, codes, and
guidelines needed to run a charter school in the State of New
Jersey.
This board has worked closely with the executive director,
the principal, the staff, the school’s attorney, the school’s auditor,
parents, the community, and students to insure that it was informed and
ready to do whatever was necessary to meet and in some cases exceed what
was required of them.
All Board Members had completed the required NJSBA training,
and have a greater understanding of their responsibility to the members of
the CREATE community.
Committees
CREATE’s Board of Trustees functions as a committee of the whole for
most things. The only exception is the Personnel Committee. The function
of that committee is to review qualifications of candidates for employment
prior to the whole board voting. The
committee meets on an as needed basis and prior to the meeting when the
whole board would vote.
Open
Public Meetings Act
In
order to provide compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act, a notice of
meetings is sent at least 48 hours prior to the meeting to two local
newspapers, The Jersey Journal and The Hudson Reporter.
Additionally, notices are sent to the City and County Clerk’s Office for
posting on the community bulletin board. Notices are sent by FAX and
transmittal confirmed.
Training
All
of the Trustees that have served for a year or more have attended
the New Jersey School Board’s Association training. In June, four
voting members, the Business Administrator, the Lead Person/Director, the
Treasurer, and the school’s principal attending the NJSBA weekend
training.
